From missed occasions to epic memories
The story of how remote working sparked the need for a new way to connect humans — and how Moveklub grew from a simple idea into a community movement.
A World Apart
The remote work reality
Ever notice how we became really good at working together... while being completely alone?
Zoom fatigue hit different when you realized your most meaningful human interaction was with the delivery guy. Coffee breaks became coffee breaks with yourself. "Water cooler conversations" happened in Slack threads that nobody read.
Meanwhile, organizing anything fun became a nightmare. Twenty-seven messages in the group chat about a simple hike. Half the people never saw the updates. Plans died in notification hell.
There had to be a better way to just... hang out.
A Bigger Purpose
The realization
Here's the thing: we weren't just missing work connections.
We were forgetting how to be human together. When did you last do something spontaneous with friends? Not "let's grab coffee sometime" but actually grabbing coffee. Not planning a weekend trip for three months but just... going somewhere.
The irony was perfect: we had these supercomputers in our pockets, connecting us to billions of people, and we could not even coordinate a bike ride with five friends.
What if technology could actually get us off our phones and into the world?
The Power of Teams
Accountability in action
You know that feeling when someone's counting on you to show up?
Think about it: when you have a workout buddy waiting for you at 6 AM — rain, shine, or snowstorm — suddenly hitting snooze becomes a lot harder. There's something powerful about knowing someone else is lacing up their shoes, expecting you to be there too.
It transforms "I should probably exercise" into "We're doing this together." That team dynamic became the foundation of everything Moveklub would become.
That is the magic of mutual accountability.
Life in the Mountains
The community problem
Picture this: you move to a ski resort. Mountains everywhere. Trails for days. Perfect powder. And you're... riding alone.
Turns out, everyone else was riding alone too. There were 20+ WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages, Discord servers — all trying to organize the same thing. The mountain biking group did not know about the hiking group. The skiing crew had no idea about the trail runners.
The problem was not lack of people or activities. It was that everyone was shouting into different echo chambers, hoping someone would hear them.
Paradise was full of lonely adventurers, all looking for the same thing.
From Idea to Reality
Building the dream
So we built it. Not the idea — the actual thing.
Late nights at La Forge, EPFL's innovation hub, surrounded by other people crazy enough to think they could change how things work. Coffee-fueled coding sessions. Prototype after prototype. Testing with real people doing real activities.
Every broken feature taught us something. Every successful meetup proved we were onto something. Slowly, the chaos of group chats started making sense.
Turns out, when you solve a real problem, people actually want to use your solution.
Moving Forward
The future is bright
Here's where we are now: Moveklub works.
People are meeting. Plans are happening. Adventures that used to die in group chats are turning into actual memories. From weekend warriors in the Alps to casual joggers in city parks — turns out everyone just wanted an easier way to not be alone.
The best stories only happen if you show up.
Moveklub is the invitation; the rest is up to you.

“Building Moveklub has been the adventure of a lifetime. Every line of code, every late-night brainstorm, every ‘what if we tried this?’ moment brought us closer to something we genuinely believe in.”
